Most private country clubs are just that – private. But if you're staying at one particular Pittsburgh-area hotel, you can play Arnold Palmer's home course, Latrobe Country Club.
Mr. Palmer and the Marriott hotel chain together opened a SpringHill Suites hotel on September 10, located a short distance west of Latrobe CC at (appropriately enough) 115 Arnold Palmer Drive, about 42 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh. Shortly after opening, the hotel announced that limited tee-times at Latrobe CC would be made available to hotel guests. One nice feature of the 109-room inn is the 32-inch-wide doorways, which are not just ADA-compliant, but also make it far easier for golfers to carry their bags into the rooms. :) Reservations must be booked via the hotel: SpringHill Suites Pittsburgh Latrobe The club itself opened in 1921 as a nine-hole course, but Palmer designed the second nine at the course in 1964 and added several covered bridges to the course at that time. The bridges remain very popular not just among club members, but also with photographers who constantly visit the club in order to capture images like the one above. One of the cool features is that the back tee on hole #1 is actually located on the practice putting green! Was a very cool course - lots of twists and turns and up and downs!!! 10/16/12
