Let Lexi Play Already!

Cobra Golf is using its leverage to push the LPGA and commissioner Mike Whan to finally grant Lexi Thompson membership on the all ladies tour. The company recently launched a Let Lexi Playcampaign and is utilizing Twitter to get the message out.

The company is giving away "Let Lexi Play" t-shirts on Twitter and its encouraging fans to show their support of Lexi by tweeting using the hashtag "#LetLexiPlay". Even Cobra staff players Rickie Fowler and Ian Poulter are on board for the cause. @PUMAGolf tweeted a picture of Rickie donning a "Let Lexi Play" shirt and @cobragolf tweeted a picture of Ian wearing it.

Whan released a statement after Lexi won the Navistar LPGA Classic that in order for him to grant the young star membership he would have to receive a petition from her camp. Well, guess what? Lexi's agent told TheGolfChannel.com he intended to file the petition today so it should only be a matter of time before Lexi is on the LPGA. It is expected that Whan will accept the petition on the condition that Lexi waits until her 17th birthday (which also happens to be his birthday) next year before she takes up her membership.

Originally, Whan told Lexi he would make an exception and allow her to qualify for the LPGA by making it through Q-School. In the first round, she dominated the field and was set to compete in the second round. However, after she became the youngest player in history to win an LPGA event, she decided to turn the tables and withdrew from Q-School. The move was a brilliant power play and it forced Whan to make play his hand and it looks like it's working!

despicable. No wonder these young girls end up so messed up with no perception of reality.

Torleif Sorenson says:
Disagreed; Thompson qualified for the U.S. Women's Open at age 12, won the USGA Girls' Junior Championship in '08, and won fair-and-square at Capitol Hill. *If* she somehow becomes a petulant drama queen out on tour, *then* people can sling barbs at her.

What is despicable is that the LPGA has placed a "glass ceiling" over Lexi and over So Yeon Ryu after she won the U.S. Women's Open. Whan might just be trying to protect himself and the LPGA for liability purposes. But get a clue, Commissioner -- you should have had the paperwork, her tour card, and a special under-age agreement prepared by now!

Professional golf is the ultimate meritocracy -- and Lexi Thompson and So Yeon Ryu have both proved that they belong on the LPGA tour.

EloraBlue... I massively disagree... I've said previously, Lionel Messi left Argentina for Europe at the tender age of 13, none of it has gone to his head. He comes across as the nicest and most down to earth bloke on the planet. I think with the right support, both personal and professional she'll do just fine.

Torleif Sorenson says:
Pluto's correct. It's a shame that the LPGA took a few mis-steps along the way, but she is a legitimate star. Surely people will have elevated expectations, but with one LPGA victory and the 2008 USGA Girls' Junior Championship under her belt, I would not dare to bet against her.

Yeah Kurt, those towering cumulus would make for a great soaring day wouldn't it?
You know what a nymphocumulus cloud is? ...A f...ing thunderstorm!
