What Is the Best Golf Halloween Costume?
By mustang6560 on 10/26/11
Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year.

I enjoy spooking my house out with orange and black (yes, I also put up Christmas lights), carving pumpkins in the annual Nathan J. Trifone pumpkin carving contest (and I win every year, except this year), eating homemade pumpkin pie and dressing up on Halloween night.

But, as much as I love Halloween, I always have trouble trying to find a good costume. And unfortunately, you can't find much inspiration from golf. I don't want to dress up like an old-timey golfer or Carl Spackler from Caddyshack and while a gopher costume is kind of clever, most people wouldn't get the Caddyshack reference. The best golf costume I've seen in recent years was last year when Rajon Rondo dressed up like Tiger Woods with an arm sling (he was poking fun of Tiger's Thanksgiving Day car crash). But, Tiger's sex scandal is old news now so trying to pull off that costume this year would be lame.

I've got it - the best golf Halloween costume in 2011 would be to dress up as one of the Golf Boys - Ben Crane, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler or Hunter Mahan. You can't buy the costume online or at a store (not that I've seen), but you could put the costumes together pretty easily. To be Bubba, all you need to do is pull out the overalls from the closet and show off the man fur. You might have to borrow some leopard print from your girlfriend or wife to be Hunter, but I'm sure you can find something. You get the idea. And if you have four of your buddies, you can each be one. You're welcome for the idea. I'll tell you what, if any of you dress up as the Golf Boys, I'll post your pictures on oobgolf.

Is anyone planning on dressing up in a golf themed costume for Halloween this year?

I will be the family photographer. I've got a 1 year old, so many pictures will be taken, and since I've got the cool DSLR, I get to take them.

@birdieXris: George Jetson was an avid golfer, is that what you were going for? Also, I agree with Banker85, no one will be like, "oh shit! the golf boys!"

I dresses up as Tiger Wood one year. Yes, Wood, singular. Wasn't meant to be a golfer but, the costume was too clever for anybody to figure out so I had to go home and get my putter, golf hat, and a golf ball. I thought it would be easy to see what I was, I had some old tan slacks that I painted wood grain on to look like, well, wood; and painted an orange t-shirt with black stripes to look like, well, tiger stripes. "What are you, a target?" "What are you supposed to be?" Point to the shirt, "Tiger"; point to the pants, "Wood". "Oh you're Tiger Woods?" No, I am Tiger....Wood. "I don't get it." Ah forget it, you couldn't see a barn if you just walked into it(That is what I was thinking about these people...lol...).

@DoubleDingo... my experience is that if the costume requires any level of thought (much like a vanity license plate), people just won't get it. Next time, make it easy on yourself and cut a couple holes in a sheet and tell everyone you're Charlie Brown.

I just might have to do that! Dumb it down, I like it. Speaking of vanity plates, for almost 8 years in the 90's I saw this license plate TAPLRAC. It made absolutely no sense. I knew the people that had it but, never had a chance to ask them. And then one day it hit me, it's backwards! A couple years after I figured it out I actually got to see them and they confirmed I was correct in finally figuring it out and was the only one to do so.

I always have the same costume. Not golf related, but I have a bright orange sweater that my wife sewed a jack o'lantern face on and I claim I am the great pumkin.
