Snedeker Injures Himself — On a Segway
By Torleif Sorenson on 11/7/13
Glamorous injuries are better than non-glamorous injuries because they make for more interesting stories.
The legendary Ben Hogan survived a horrific car/bus smash near Van Horn, Texas in 1949 to come back and win a string of major championships and PGA Tour events. The late Ken Venturi narrowly avoided heat stroke to win the 1964 U.S. Open at Congressional. Tiger Woods won a 19-hole playoff over Rocco Mediate at the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines with a fractured tibia and a blown ACL. Famous and utterly remarkable stories, all.
When this writer worked in golf retail in 2007, one customer came into our store one evening with most of her right leg in a cast and getting around on crutches. She explained that it was the result of a skiing accident. Definitely a glamorous injury.
Then... there are the not-so-glamorous and flat-out bizarre injuries.
When Loren Roberts sneezed so hard during the 1998 Masters Tournament that he sustained a broken rib and had to withdraw, we thought we had seen it all. But now, Brandt Snedeker has added to the lamentable legend of how not to get hurt.
On Monday, Snedeker was at a corporate golf outing at Sheshan International Golf Club outside Shanghai when he hopped off a Segway — and lost his balance and fell awkwardly. (We are sorry to report that nobody caught the incident on video.) Doctors report that Snedeker sustained a bruised left tibia and a strained anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). While surgery will not be necessary, his injuries could require from two weeks to two months to heal. As a result, Snedeker has withdrawn from the Australian PGA Championship and flown home to Nashville.
Earlier this year, Snedeker missed six weeks of the PGA Tour schedule with a cracked rib — although we're pretty sure that it was not the result of a sneeze.

So 300+lb NFL linemen have no problem using Segways, and not getting hurt using them, but Brandt Snedeker can't?
I bet the generic 300+lb NFL linemen you're referring to did not "hop" off his Segway...
@mustang... you're not helping Brandt's case.
I thought i read somewhere that Snedeker has some kind of soft bone condition.

I love the Chopper. Kinda made my co-workers a little annoyed when I spent a couple months on the "Harden up!" campaign.
BTW, I highly recommend the portrayal by Eric Bana in the film "Chopper".
Some favorite quotes:
"I’m just a bloody normal bloke. A normal bloke who likes a bit of torture"
"Jimmy, if you keep stabbing me, you’re going to kill me."
"Why would I shoot a bloke ‘BANG’, then drive him to the bloody car and wizz him off to the hospital at a hundred miles an hour? It defeats the purpose of having shot him in the first place."
Sorry, I digress.
@BentPutter.... there's a pill to cure that now.
