Previewing the Week Ahead
Golf is a complicated game to keep up with - there are multiple tours in multiple countries around the world all happening at the same time. Until the USGA and R&A decide to simplify things by creating a single world tour, I thought I’d help keep you on pace by previewing the week ahead. Feel free to pass along suggests as to what you'd like to see in future weeks.
PGA TOUR Tournament: Sony Open
Course: Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii
Defending Champion: Mark Wilson
Preview: A full field of players will descend upon Hawaii for the Sony Open, the second tournament of the young PGA Tour season. Mark Wilson, the defending champion, will make the short trip from Maui to the Big Island after the conclusion of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions today to try and defend his title against a talented field.
Notes: Charlie Beljan, the oober turned PGA Tour pro is making his rookie debut at Waialae Country Club. Good luck, CBeljan!
EUROPEAN TOURTournament: Joburg Open
Course: Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa
Defending Champion: Charl Schwartzel
Preview: Charl Schwartzel returns to the Joburg Open as the two-time defending champion. The South African won the tournament at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club the last two years by a combined 10 strokes. Charl followed up his second consecutive victory at the Joburg Open last year by winning his first green jacket at The Masters.
Notes: The Joburg Open was founded in 2007 and is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. The Champions Tour, LPGA and Ladies European Tour are off.
