We finally took the plunge — oobgolf joined Facebook!

If Facebook was a dinner party, then we missed the surf 'n turf they were serving for dinner. And we probably missed dessert too (and we love creme brulee!). But, we made it in time for the after dinner drink, which is the best part, right?

To help us grow our presence, please LIKE US on Facebook. And in case you didn't know, we're also on Twitter (we've been there for a minute though) so FOLLOW US too!

Evidently we can only "like" you on FB, of which I did. Why can't we "friend" you (request) as well? Your settings don't seem to give that option. I admit to a little ignorance when it comes to FB.

Never mind. I answered my own question when I thought about it a little more. Oob doesn't need to hear all about the minutia of our lives. Duh.

Nothing personal against Oob's foray into facebook and I know its just a silly terminology but I am not crazy about being bombarded from all directions with these urgings to LIKE US on facebook. How about get off my back, quit telling me to like stuff. What an weird thing to request from someone. Twenty years ago if someone told you "LIKE US on facebook" is going to be one of the most ubiquitous and enduring refrains of its time, who in their right mind would go along with that? Well it's here. Take a step back. Do you want to be controlled? I definitely don't. I think I see what's going on. Do you?

Now that I'm kind of riled up now I just want to point out the redundancy of a site like oob employing a facebook or twitter. To me, these are primarily sales and marketing tools for companies. For users, what do they offer that is beyond the capacity of a website or email? Here's the great thing about a website, the first part of "WWW" stands for WORLDWIDE. I think people are losing sight of that. They are starting to believe that fb and twitter actually deliver unique products.

Now some will say that fb offers a wonderful means of networking with friends, family, colleagues, etc. To me it's just a template approach to socializing. It may make things seem easier, but the downside is if you engage in it too much, over time all you are really doing is just further homogenizing yourself into the hive. Your thoughts, your likes and interests, all formatted neatly into a uniform page that can be neatly filed with all the others.

To me the great thing about the web is that anyone can register their own domain and website for next to nothing and use it to broadcast their likes and interests or whatever else to their family, friends, the whole world if they like. Having your own website is like owning your own home. Yes, it comes with responsibility. You are responsible for the appearance and upkeep. Yes, that is some work, but with it comes a total freedom of expression. Facebook on the other hand is like a dorm room, a small and highly restricted dorm room. There's less responsibility, less to think about. Have a thought? Fill out this form. Want to contact a friend? Use this form. Meanwhile all your thoughts and interactions are being tracked by higher ups.

I may hate FB, but i think it's a good idea. I 'LIKED' the page for sure. It's free advertising for you. Everyone i'm connected to will see it, and maybe a coupe will join, become an 'addict',' and generate some more income.

That said, i agree with beef on most counts, but for something like this, i'll do my part.
