U.S. Open Round 2 Comment Thread
By mustang6560 on 6/14/13
The first round of the U.S. Open is almost over — there are a few players finishing up as we speak — and so are the Merion is too short, It's too wet, and Someone might shoot a 62 conversations.

Round one was anything but easy for the players. Tor filed an excellent day one report in case you missed any of the action.

Like yesterday, we created a forum for oobers to share their opinions about the second round of the U.S. Open. If you have something to say about Merion, Tiger, the USGA, etc., share it here! The more comments the better!

To start the conversation, here are a few questions:
Will the winning score be under par?

What will the low round of round two be?

At +3, will Tiger Woods make the cut?

+3 could very well win it in the end.

Phil being annoying again with his latest "World's Greatest Dad" act. I am most curious to see how he does in the afternoon. Will he continue the steady play or will he poop out. It is going to be a grueling round I am guessing.

I think the afternoon players will have it tough. I assume that the wind will pickup when the weather (clouds) move out this afternoon.

Have fun hitting 260 yard par 3's in 15mph wind.

I don't think we're going to see anything more than maybe 3-under in any single round. I think the winner will be whoever can stay at, or under, par through all 4 rounds.

Rory's swinging great, but he's still missing his approach shots. I'd really like to see him win.

@mustang... One more hole, and I think you can stick a fork in the Master's Champ.

Any idea what, exactly, Tiger did to his wrist/arm?

So is it just top 60 that make the cut this year, or is it top 60 & wihtin 10 of the leader?

mustang6560 says:
Top 60 and ties.

The USGA did away with the "within 10 strokes of the leader" bit last year.

Only one person in the morning groups broke par today, Billy Horschel finished with a 2under round.

Listening from work on the website.

Actually didn't mind this little bit of commentary.

commentator 1 "There is a smart man down there saying 'get in the hole' for a tee shot on a 628 yard par 5"
commentator 2 "There’s always one or 2"
commentator 1 "You got to love those 1 or 2...They make the rest of us seem reasonable."

I ccould be a meteorologist. I'm sure I'm right at least 40% of the time.

I hate to say I told you so but! What happened to all of the people who said Merion was going to be defense less against all of the big bombers. Too short for a U S Open. Predicting that someone would shoot 62. That winning score would be 15 or 16 under par. I will stand by my prediction that the winning score will be one over. Thursday and Friday were the easy days. The course is rapidly drying out and will be tougher over the weekend. Ask anyone in the field if they would take a score of even par late Sunday and unless they are crazy they would willingly take it.
