2013 Open Championship: Round 2 Comment Thread
By mustang6560 on 7/19/13
The second round of the Open Championship is underway from Gullane, Scotland. The conditions at Muirfield are tough again today as only 13 players are under par in round two.

Tiger just finished his round — he managed to birdie the 18th to finish even on the day to stay at -2 for the championship. Lee Westwood fired a bogey-free 31 on the front, but bogey three of his last six holes to finish -3 on the day, -2 for the championship.

Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, and several other notable players are set to tee off in the afternoon wave shortly.

In case you missed any of the action from yesterday, Tor wrote an excellent summary of round one, Charl Schwartzel snapped his 6-iron in half, Thomas Bjorn broke an $80,000 camera, and Rory McIlroy opened with a +8 79.

Looks like today might be a day just to survive, if you're near the top of the leaderboard. Low round is -3, and they are both in the clubhouse already. If it's anything like I'm reading yesterday was, there won't be any low scores coming from later tee times.

Rory is heading in the wrong direction. He's +2 thru 5. The projected cut is +5, so he needs to start draining some birds if he wants to play the weekend.

This is kind of mean but I am enjoying watching them struggle to get the right weight on the chips and putts.

It's not mean at all. We've been conditioned here in the States to think -22 is "normal" golf.

Leaders are playing well in the afternoon. Was hoping for more of a bloodbath. Serves me right for being so negative.

Really like Cabrera but I wonder if that long swing will catch up to him on this course.

On the upside, I'm still beating Nathan in the Best Ball challenge.

Looks like a cut line of around +8

@mjaber: We're tied now! :)

But it looks like you have the advantage heading into the weeked as three of my players are headed home (Colsaerts, Haas, and Vijay) compared to your two (Watney and Glover). :(

All I can hope for is Tiger fires two bogey-free rounds on the weekend - it could happen!

I have decided I am pulling for Jiminez. He is everything a golf pro should be. He loves live, smokes cigars and drinks good booze and a little bit questionable as a person. I love it! If the winner can't be American, I hope he pulls it off! It would be great.

Wes11point5: Miguel broke his leg skiing in the offseason, which sidelined him for a few months, so someone in the media ask him if he was going to give up skiing. He replied saying (something like), "Would you give up something you loved to do?"

He's the last of a dying generation of professional golfers.

@mustang.. yeah, it's a tough deal putting your hopes on 1 guy for the weekend. Happened to me at the Master's.

Tiger.

I'm gonna agree with Ceebee. I am terrible at golf prognosticating but I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Woods shoots a 68 to lead by two or three going into Sunday.
