WeAreGolf: Leave Obama's "passion for golf" out of presidential campaign
By mustang6560 on 9/19/12
Barack Obama is an avid golfer — literally.
The industry defines an avid golfer as "one who plays 25 regulation rounds or more in a year." And according to The Washington Post, the POTUS played his 100th round of golf since being sworn in earlier this summer, which puts his average at the avid golfer level.
But, WeAreGolf, a coalition of golf organizations led by the Club Managers Association of America, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, the National Golf Course Owners Association, and The PGA of America, doesn't want Republicans to use Obama's "passion for golf" as ammunition against him in his presidential reelection campaign because it reflects poorly on the game.
So the group sent a letter to GOP elected officials urging them leave golf out of politics in the lead up to November 6, 2012.
"As we enter the final stretch of campaign season," the group writes, "we write to make a request we hope you will receive in the same spirit in which it is offered. Please reconsider your political strategy of criticizing President Obama’s passion for golf."WeAreGolf decided to send the letter following Marco Rubio's comment in the Republican National Convention last month. During the RNC, Marco, a junior U.S. Senator from Florida, said "Our problem with President Obama isn't that he's a bad person," Rubio said. "By all accounts, he too is a good husband and a good father and — thanks to lots of practice — a good golfer. Our problem is not that he's a bad person. Our problem is that he's a bad president."
It's unlikely that the letter will do anything to stop Marco or any other GOP politician from using golf as a talking point in their anti-Obama message, however, I applaud WeAreGolf for sending it. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of us agree that It's Okay to play golf as the POTUS.

Everyone needs time away from the stresses of work. Few of us have a problem with any President playing golf, taking a vacation or otherwise getting away from the office.
When I first read it, I thought they meant 100 rounds this year, and just thought that I needed to get into politics. 100 in 4 years is nothing.
Hmmm. Loves golf and basketball. Has two daughters. Used to smoke and had a heckuva time quitting. Any similarities to me cease abruptly there, however, as I was born in Canada and - despite what the FOX network sez, I believe President Obama was born in the USA. P.S. - do you think he sells drivers and stuff on eBay or FGI? Is he (gasp) an aliased OOBER??? Nah, probably not. Maybe.
@windowsurfer may be on to something. What would Mr. Obama use as his oob name? Prez44? No, too obvious. BOgolfer? No, kind of disgusting. Maybe we should check all the oobers who reside within 5 miles of Washington, DC. Cross reference posted rounds with times the President is known to have been unavailable. "Yea, sure you were in the situation room for 4 hours. Why are your pant legs grass stained!"
Now you've done it. A Secret Service guy is downloading your personal dosier right now bkuehn1952.
