Robert Allenby Hires Friend As Caddie
By mustang6560 on 8/25/11
Robert Allenby recently fired both of his caddies (they shared duty) and replaced them with one of his friends, Robert Floyd. He comes from golf pedigree - he is the son of Hall of Famer Raymond Floyd). As a former college standout, he looked primed for a professional golf career, but life hasn't quite play out as he hoped.
Floyd's life has been difficult lately. He's recently divorced, his mother just went through cancer treatment, and to top it off, he was arrested in June on a drunk driving related charge. Since it was his second offense in three years, he was facing jail time. So to avoid going to the slammer, he agreed to spend a month under house arrest and wear an alcohol monitor.
"Robert is a buddy of mine and I think having him will help me be more relaxed on course and allow me to play golf the way I need to."Allenby is currently ranked 58th in the FedExCup Points so he is virtually guaranteed to make it to the second round and unless something unforeseeable happens, he should make it to the third round as well. With the amount of money left on the table during the FedExCup, Allenby could help turn around Floyd's life in an instant (at least financially).
Luckily for Floyd, he's friends with a successful PGA Tour player, who did what any good friend would do and decided to help a friend in need. By helping his friend Floyd, Allenby admitted he's also helping himself. He hopes having his friend on his bag will help him feel more relaxed on the course.
So far, Allenby is currently E thru 7 holes at the Barclays. It's not great, but it's not bad either.
