Foursomes Announced For Solheim Cup
By mustang6560 on 9/22/11
The 2011 Solheim Cup starts tomorrow and I sort of feel obligated to give it a little attention. Admittedly too, I am kind of excited about it. There is something innately exciting about an US versus THEM, America versus Europe, event. Maybe it has something to do with this.

The first round foursomes were announced earlier today and I like our chances to four-peat!
    European names first

  • 7.40am: Maria Hjorth and Anna Nordqvist v Michelle Wie and Cristie Kerr

  • 7.52am: Karen Stupples and Melissa Reid v Paula Creamer and Brittany Lincicome

  • 8.04am: Catriona Matthew and Azahara Munoz v Stacy Lewis and Angela Stanford

  • 8.16am: Suzann Pettersen and Sophie Gustafson v Brittany Lang and Juli Inkster
The 12th edition of the Solheim Cup will take place at Killeen Castle in County Meath, Ireland. Europe might have the home course advantage, but we are coming off three straight Solheim Cup victories. Oh yea, and we hold an 8-3 overall record against our colonial cousins! U-S-A, U-S-A!

Trash talking aside, is anyone else looking forward to the Solheim Cup? Or better question, is anyone planning on following the action?

I will depend on you to fill me in on the action. Not that I'm not interested, I am, and I would rather watch the girls play than watch football, I'm just not going to be around a TV, hopefully I will be out enjoying the beautiful weather and trying out these new Titleist golf balls they sent me to test and review. work work work

The patriotic aspect of the event does nothing for me. I maintain that the women's team cup challenge that everyone wants to see is USA v. Asia. It has all the makings of a great event. Let's face it there is some underlying tension between the two cultures that could make for some compelling tension. Each side has beef-the USA hates them because they've taken over the tour, dominated it's majorest of championships and killed off the audience in the process, and Asia must begrudge us for trying to shut them out with that English-speaking only rule bid a couple of years ago. I mean I am down with our NATO pals but face it, Euro is not a womens golf powerhouse. USA would be serious underdogs against an Asian squad and I think that could be fun.
