Steve Stricker Defends Tiger Pick
By mustang6560 on 11/1/11
Steve Stricker is not one to get caught up in the drama of the media circus from week to week. The Wisconsin native likes to let his clubs do the talking.

But the fourth ranked player in the world did defend U.S. Captain Fred Couple's decision to select Tiger Woods with one of his two captain's picks after Greg Norman, the International Team captain, questioned the decision.
"I’m for it," he said. "I think it’s a good thing. I don’t know why Greg said what he did. He did basically the same thing with Adam Scott a couple years ago when Adam wasn’t playing well. It kind of turned Adam's game around. So I don’t know where that came from.

"I think it’s great. I talk to Tiger through texting every now and then. He’s really excited. We’re looking forward to it. I think he’ll be ready, too. He’ll find a way to get it done. When you play him one on one, he’ll find a way. Just like at the Ryder Cup last year. He trounced the guy he was playing (Francesco Molinari of Italy, 4 and 3, in singles). He loves match play."
I am enjoying the back and forth between the U.S. and International sides ahead of the Presidents Cup. To be honest, I'm now fairly excited about the event even though it's being played halfway around the world. Hopefully the Tiger of old shows up to make the International side pay for what they said.

Freddie hasn't announced the pairings yet for the Presidents Cup, but it's virtually certain that Tiger and Steve will be paired together, as long as Steve is fit to play. The two went 4-0 in the team portions two years ago at the Presidents Cup and 2-1 in the Ryder Cup last year. But, Steve has a herniated disk in his neck and he is still experiencing some weakness in his left arm and numbness in his left hand so we'll have to wait and see what happens. According to Steve, though, "My arm would have to be falling off for me not to play."

The Presidents Cup will be played on November 17-20 at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia.

i think that the inclusion of Tiger on the team is more for a ratings/commercial boost, i'm sure some subtle hints may have been dropped in Fred Couples direction, plus i think Fred realize's this as well. i think that the team is supposed to be made up of players who earned the most points and have a hot hand, not based on their past reputation. Tiger hasn't earned his way on to this team. Not being a Tiger fan, i hope he gets trounced. if this were the Ryder cup i think things would be different. actually if you want the Presidents cup to become relevant for fans, it would be good for the International team to win, the Ryder cup had become boring until Europe started kicking our butts regularly, just my opinion

Tiger is a no brainer. He is a great captian's pick! He is still the most talented player in the world. He raises the level of all the players just by showing up. Even on a bad day, Tiger is a formidable competitor.

I would love to have Tiger's bad game instead of my good game any day.
