John Daly Quits, Volume 30
By mustang6560 on 11/10/11
As mwfaith1971 pointed out in the forums, John Daly pulled another John Daly in the first round of the Australian Open yesterday (or is it technically today?). The former Arkansas standout called it quits on hole 11 at The Lakes after he ran out of golf balls. I guess John Daly was upset that Steve Williams was getting all the attention.
I was tuned in last night to see the start of John's umpteenth career meltdown. It started on hole 10 when he played the wrong ball from the sand trap, so what he thought was a chance at birdie turned into a triple bogey after a two stroke penalty and three-putt. I felt bad for him because I played the wrong ball at the World Am and let me tell you, the feeling you get after you realize the mistake is arguably one of the worst feelings in golf.
That said, his reaction following the penalty was completely unbecoming of a professional. On hole 11, he pulled an unsuccessful Tin Cup moment from the tee box and sprayed several balls into the water until his bag was empty. Instead of asking the tournament officials for more golf balls (which is legal), he decided he had enough and walked off the course. This is the second time in the last two months that John withdrew from a golf tournament in frustration. In September, he walked off the course at the Austrian Open after he was assessed a penalty for dropping in the wrong spot.
He tweeted shortly after his round "when u run out of balls u run out of balls. yes, I shook my player's partners hands & signed my card w/rules official." His reaction was quite different from the tournament officials and media who called his behavior unprofessional. And I agree 100%. John's not the first person to catch a bad break in golf and he certainly won't be the last. If he's not careful, he might be forced to retire because the sponsors exemptions might dry up and as the 666th ranked golfer in the world, you don't qualify for much (I'm surprised they count that high!).

Perhaps he just doesn't like places with AUSTR in the name?
He can retire and live off the earnings from his pizza spice empire.
YA I seen the meltdown start when he played the wrong ball. He is a joke, plain and simple.
Is there anywhere online available to watch the Australian open?
it is on live tonight on the Golf Channel, starting at 8 EST
but is it streaming on line?
Matt F says:
I'm watching just to get to look at my city.
If you get SWX channel in USA, they were showing Friday's live tourney, Thurday night.(time difference)
