Luke Donald Wins Race To Dubai
By mustang6560 on 12/12/11
World number one Luke Donald accomplished something even Tiger Woods hasn't - he won the PGA Tour and European Tour money list titles in the same year.

I am thoroughly impressed but instead of me describing my feelings about Luke's banner year, I'll let his record speak for itself.
  • Defeats Martin Kaymer 3&2 to win the WGC-Accenture Match Play in February.

  • Defeats world number one Lee Westwood in a playoff to win the BMW PGA Championship in May.

  • As a result of his playoff win in the BMW, he overtakes Lee as the world number one.

  • The week before the Open Championship, he wins the Barclays Scottish Open by a solid four strokes over nearest competitor Fredrik Andersson Hed.

  • Luke rattled off six straight birdies to close with an eight-under par 64 to win the Fall Series finale at the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

  • Needing to finish no worse than second to regain the PGA Tour Money List Title from Webb Simpson, the Englishman closed in style Sunday at Disney to win his second event on the PGA Tour.

  • The PGA of America presents Luke with its Player of the Year title along with the Vardon trophy.

  • And finally, Luke defended his Race To Dubai Title by firing back to back 66s at the Dubai World Championship.
Call me a bandwagon fan, that's fine, but I will be rooting for Luke at EVERY major next year. Forget my current five favorite golfers, the only thing left for him to accomplish in terms of his career resume is to win a major. I don't want him to be on the same list as Lee Westwood or Sergio Garcia, "best without a major".

I have a feeling Luke will be getting his first major under his belt this year. The guy is too good not to come out on top of at least one this year. JMO

Money list talk is the height of boredom. Nate is just gaga because he has a photo of himself and Luke Donald looking like old college buddies. (should've used that photo for this story btw) All respect to luke Donald but if you were to tell me five years ago that in 2011 Luke Donald would be the number one golfer in the world rankings and on both tours and that Tiger Woods would be ranked 51st or whatever and winless for two years, my monocle would've fallen into my brandy snifter. The golf universe is currently in a hellish, dystopian state if you ask me. I mean just look at what has gone on, what has passed for stories in the last couple years.

You know, I just read on the interenet that Tiger Woods unofficially topped the European Tour money list seven times while also leading the PGAT list. So whatever modicum of appreciation I had for Luke Donalds achievement, has now vanished. Sorry Nate!

@legitimatebeef- Hey, a technicality is a technicality. Try telling Tiger his victory at the Chevron didn't count.

You're discounting how much Luke traveled during the year. In order to fulfill the minimum requires for both tours, he hoped back and forth several times between the US and Europe. That kind of travel takes a toll on you. The years Tiger *unofficially* won the European money list, how much extra traveling did he do?

It's still very impressive in my opinion!

Tiger's accomplishment is more impressive to me because he did it in less events. I am with beef once I read that Tiger has unofficially done it through WGC and Majors 7 times! Luke Donald's accomplishment seemed blah. Luke is good but I don't think great. He is the king of back door top tens. Always plays well on the weekend.
