Previewing the Golf Week Ahead, January 19-22
By mustang6560 on 1/16/12
Golf is a complicated game to keep up with - there are multiple tours in multiple countries around the world all happening at the same time. Until the USGA and R&A decide to simplify things by creating a single world tour, I thought I’d help keep you on pace by previewing the week ahead. Feel free to pass along suggests as to what you'd like to see in future weeks.
Tournament: Humana Challenge
Defending Champion: Jhonattan Vegas
Course: PGA West in La Quinta, California
Preview: The Humana Challenge, formerly the Bob Hope Classic, made a few changes to the tournament since last year. The most notable change is the tournament was reduced to 72 holes, instead of the traditional 90. Our boy, Charlie Beljan, the oober turned PGA Tour pro, failed to make the cut in his rookie debut at the Sony Open last week. No worries, though. He's back in action this week in California at the Humana Challenge.
Tournament: Volvo Golf Champions
Defending Champion: Paul Casey
Course: Fancourt Golf Resort in George, South Africa
Preview: The Volvo Golf Champions, in its second season on the European Tour schedule, moves from the deserts of Bahrain to the coast of South Africa. The tournament was moved due to the current political unrest in the small island state in the Persian Gulf. Paul Casey will not be able to defend his title because he was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a dislocated shoulder he suffered a few weeks back.
Tournament: Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai
Defending Champion: John Cook
Course: Hualalai Golf Course in Kaupulehu-Kona, Hawaii
Preview: The Champions Tour will make its 2012 debut this week at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii. John Cook, the defending champion, won three times in 2011 and it all started at the Hualalai Golf Course.
The LPGA and LET are off.
