2012: The Year of Phil or Tiger?
By mustang6560 on 2/13/12
2012 is supposed to be the year of Tiger Woods.

He finished 2011 with two strong performances in the Presidents Cup and the Chevron World Challenge. At Royal Melbourne in Australia, he secured the winning point for the U.S. Team against a strong International squad, and at Sherwood in California, he finished birdie-birdie to hold of '07 Masters Champion Zach Johnson to win for the first time in over two years.

But, after watching Phil Mickelson dominate in the final round of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Tiger post disappointing final round scores in each of his first two tournaments of the year, I'm starting to think 2012 may be the year of Phil. We won't know the answer for several months because the season is still very young, but trying to predict the future is always fun.

So, in your opinion, who will have a better year - Phil or Tiger?

Philly Boy has always been inconsistent--MC one week, sterling win the next. He has never won player of the year or the money list or the Vardon trophy so there's no reason to predict a big year for him just because he looked awesome yesterday. Two tournaments ago he looked awful and people were already predicting the end for him. The thing is that is nothing new-- name a year where Phil has not appeared washed up at some point during the season.

Whats the defn of a better year?

More Wins? PGA or Majors
More Places? PGA or Majors
More Money? (From Golf Events)

More Wins - Maybe Phil
More Places - Tiger is always CLOSER but isn't finishing
More Money - I guess it depends on what Phil wins. I still say Tiger.

Tough one, but it seems like Tiger is consistent right now but not amazing.
Phil isn't consistent, but can be amazing.
Overall, I always say go Mr Consistent, even if he isn't finishing (YET).

Neither, both will have their moments but I cant see either making a dominant run at any time during the season... I think Tiger will have more top tens though.

Both. I think both of them have struggled with health issues but both look healthy now. Tiger's swing looks very good, just needs to work on his putting stroke. Doral will likely be his first win, since he's very familiar with that course. If and when he gets his confidence back is the biggest factor. Ideally, I'd like to see Rory and Day push hard at the majors vs the resurgent Americans Woods/Mickelson. Golf needs stars, not parity.

I believe Tiger will win a couple tourneys including a Major. Just a gut feeling you know.

Tiger has had 1 win and 2 very legitimate chances to win more in his last 3 outings. Phil has 1 win, a T26 and an MC. i think i'll go with Tiger since he seems more consistent.

i'm hoping both will do well though. golf is more fun when they're winning.
