Zero Aces
By mustang6560 on 2/16/12
I have something UCLA sophomore Patrick Cantlay doesn't - a legitimate hole-in-one.
Cantlay made a hole-in-one with his second tee shot in a practice round Tuesday at Riviera’s par-3 16th. He said it was his second hole-in-one with a second tee shot. He’s never made one on his first attempt.
Now, I know what you're thinking and I agree 110%. I'm sure Patrick wouldn't trade anything about his golf game for anything about my golf game, including my one career ace. At the end of the day, shooting a hole-in-one is mostly luck and I'll be the first to admit it. But, it's cool to know my trophy case includes something his doesn't - a certificate from the PGA of America acknowledging my ace.

Did I mention it's the only award in my trophy case?

However you both still lack a reasonable reaction to an ace.

The Black Ace. Argh!

A good reason to never hit a 2nd "practice" shot to a par 3. Inevitably, a practice shot will be the one that eventually goes in for you.

The PGA will send you a certificate if you make a hole-in-one???? I had no idea. How does this work?

We figured that much.

Years ago I "registered" my ace with a hole in one clearinghouse. Got a nifty certificate signed by Tom Watson. There are a number of organizations out there willing to accept your info. They will, however, attempt to sell you something.

That's cool. Been close a few times but never got it to drop. I'll remember that if I ever do score an ace. A free car would be nice too.

After two years of weekly playing (finally sold the sailboat) I hit an ace on #10, a 135 yard par 3 over water. Aced it again in January (1 year later) and stole the flag, it hangs in my garage. We were on #10 laughing about it the following week and a good friend from the same foursome (plays every week also) aced #11. Who's next? Hate this game, hate this game, nice shot, love this game.

I try to make a hole in one every 5 years. 2002 (free shirt), 2007 (New Mustang GT) let's see what year is this? oh yeah 2012. Time to get another one. Gotta find a tournament giving another car.
