Rory McIlroy, who narrowly escaped his first round match against George Coetzee, is playing for more than just his third career PGA Tour victory. With Luke Donald out of the way, the Northern Irishman can unseat the Englishman as the number one player in the world with a win.
To be honest, I came in here yesterday and talked about if I play well and just win matches that will take care of itself. But obviously it's another incentive waking up each morning and knowing that if you win your match at the end of that day, at the end of the week you could be World No.1.Rory is currently ranked second in the Official World Golf Rankings and is hot on the heels of Luke. It's no secret that Rory has his eyes on numero uno, especially since the better half of "Wozzilroy", Caroline Wozzniacki, has already achieved the number one ranking in her respective sport. Rory doesn't want to live in the shadows of his girlfriend forever!
Lee Westwood, who is third in the OWGR, also has a chance to retake the number one ranking with a win in Arizona. However, the odds are against him as he has never made it past the second round in the Accenture Match Play Championship.

Caroline has dropped to #4 and remains without a Grand Slam title so Rory doesn't need to worry about being overshadowed.
Lee Westwood is up 4 thru 6. Maybe I spoke too soon...
Actually, Westwoods odds are better than McIlroy's. If McIlory doesn't win, he can't take over number 1. Not so for Westwood. I think he only needs to make 1 more round... I wish I could find the link to the story that broke it down.
I was watching women's tennis on tv yesterday, and the commentators were talking smack about Wozzilroy. Apparently she's playing too much golf with Rory and the game is her demise in Tennis.
