Nick Watney Defeats Tiger Woods
By mustang6560 on 2/24/12
Well, the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship is officially over. The tournament had a good run this year. It provided two compelling days of golf between the top 64 players in the world, which was one day more than last year.
Wait. I'm getting a telegram.
Really? Hold on. Let me double check.
I was just informed that they are going to play the remaining three days of matches at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. Apparently, the tournament doesn't end the moment Tiger Woods loses. I know, I was shocked too. The stories I read following Tiger's second round loss to Nick Watney seemed to indicate the Accenture Match Play was over for all intents and purposes.
Yes. It's true. Tiger, the clutchest of clutch putters, failed to convert a five and a half foot birdie putt on the 18th green to extend his match against Nick and is no longer in Arizona. But there are plenty of other talented golfers left who are worth watching including Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Dustin Johnson, Steve Stricker, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney to name a few.
The third round kicks off at 11:50 AM CST with Martin Kaymer and Matt Kuchar.

I had Kuchard and McIlroy in the final. The rest of my brackets are hosed.
@mj i don't know how anyone can predict this bracket. It's not like NCAA where the 1 team is exponentially better than #64. #64 in golf can win a golf tourney any day.
I want to Dustin Johnson do well. He's been killing it out there, something like 5 chip ins.
As far as I'm concerned the tournament just started. I hope we can expect MUCH less Tiger coverage in the coming days. Golf coverage has been incredibly boring because it's all about Tiger and what he's NOT doing.
Duke of Hazards says:
i had a Watson / Day final. guess that's not gonna happen. i'm pulling for Rory. would like to see him take #1 World Ranking. he's got the talent, still up in the air on spine & grit.
I hope a 12 seed wins it. Go Murray State!
Ok, Tiger's putting kills him a again. No reason NOT too watch the rest of the event.
@DaRupp... I don't know either, I just thought I'd give it a shot. Every one of my predictions was pretty much an educated guess, based primarily on how they were playing prior to the tourney. It's no different than "Fantasy Golf." There's no real way to predict a winner at a weekly PGA Tour event.
@mj Agree 100%, it's like fantasy football, you put so much time and effort into it and really it's 90% luck. But it's too much fun to stay away
WOW is mustang making a joke! That was funny i LOL'd.
People still get telegrams? What do they do, send you a text message to go down to the telegraph office to pick it up? dit dah dah dit dit dit.
