Tiger Woods fights 'Tiger Woods' trademark

Tiger Woods filed a notice of opposition against a metal company in India that is trying to trademark the name "Tiger Woods".
Om Agro Chemicals, a manufacturer and trader of metals and metal products, in its application, has claimed that it conceived the Tiger Woods trademark in January 2010 for its products. The four-partner firm filed an application to register the mark a month later with the Trademarks Office. However, Florida-based ETW Corp, the exclusive licensing agent of Eldrick Tont Woods, the golfer's Christian name, has objected to Om Agro's application. Woods had set up ETW Corp in 1996, which owns on the rights and interests to his name. ETW has sent a notice of opposition through Delhi-based law firm Anand and Anand, which specialises in matters pertaining to trademarks and intellectual property rights, according to documents filed with the registrar. The national land animal of India is the Royal Bengal Tiger, so it could be possible that Om Agro Chemicals isn't trying to piggyback off of the name 'Tiger Woods'. The problem is, however, that regardless of its intentions, the Company will certainly profit from the name 'Tiger Woods'.
Despite personal and professional setbacks over the last three years, Tiger Woods is still a valuable brand name. Sure, it's not as valuable as it once was, but if his form continues to improve, it's only a matter of time before his endorsement deals return to pre-Thanksgiving 2009 levels. So, it's imperative that Tiger protects his name.
If I was him, instead of blocking the trademark, I'd try to negotiate some sort of licensing deal. I'm willing to bet that he could make a lot of money off such an agreement!

At least they didn't move the 'S' to the first word and setup an adult-film company.
they're a metal product company, shouldn't they name it Tiger Metals?
