Jason Dufner Wins Zurich Classic of New Orleans

The easygoing Jason Dufner finally broke through Sunday by defeating Ernie Els in the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
"There's a been a good bit of pressure," Dufner said. "People talking about, `Why aren't you winning? Why can't you close the deal? ... Friends, family, media, even people in my inner circle. And not in a negative way, but when you're leading tournaments going into weekends and you're finishing 24th, there's going to be some questions."
Golf owes nobody anything, however, it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before the Ohio-native finally won. He came so close at the PGA Championship last summer, but it just wasn't his time. Some, including myself, considered his bogey, bogey, bogey, par finish at the Atlanta Athletic Club a meltdown, which can be devastating to a golf career. So the fact he's not only played well since last August but won is impressive. In 11 starts so far in 2012, he's only missed one cut and has seven top 25 finishes.

The alternative storyline that Jason squashed was the resurgence of Ernie Els. For a moment in time, it looked like the Big Easy was going to breakthrough in his own right. Ernie has not won on the PGA Tour since the 2010 Arnold Palmer Invitational. But, once again his putter seemed to fail him at the wrong time. Ernie had a six-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win, however, not only did he miss the putt, his ball didn't even touch the cup.

It must be frustrating for Ernie because it's frustrating for me watching Ernie. Hopefully he'll find a win on the PGA Tour soon.

I prefer players that show some emotions. Guys like Jason that try overly hard to remain stone-faced are, for me, hard to root for.
