The Masters & the LPGA?
By mustang6560 on 5/16/12
Michael Whan, the Commissioner of the LPGA, would like to see Augusta National host an LPGA event.

In an interview with Forbes ahead of the Sybase Match Play, Michael was asked about the all-male membership at Augusta National and he provided an interesting answer.
Forbes: Should Augusta National admit female members?

Whan: As the commissioner of the LPGA, I think Augusta should have a women’s tournament. I don’t care if they have female members.

Forbes: Really?

Whan: Well, at the end of the day I would have a difficult time explaining to my kids why dad was a member of all men’s club. [Whan is not a member at Augusta.] And I really doubt by the time my kids are my age this will even be a topic. They’ll have female members by then. It’s a private club they can do what they want. It’s worth noting that Augusta National is an incredible supporter of some of our initiatives. They write us a six-figure check every year for Girls Golf, which helps gets girls into the sport. I don’t think it’s a guilt check. Maybe it is. What’s frustrating is that the best players now on our tour can’t play there. I ask every year.
I am open to the idea, as long as the tournament doesn't exclude men.

Augusta needs to get the FUCK over themselves, seriously. I like the idea of the LPGA getting a tournament at Augusta National.

@Banker85- Tell me how you really feel...

While I dont agree with the policies of ANGC, I also dont know if I would like to see a LPGA event there. Not that it would not be interesting and great for womens golf, but, and hear me out. One of the special things about the Masters is the allure and grander of the event. I have been lucky (and I do mean LUCKY)enough to attend two practice days a the Masters, and having a LPGA event there would take away the specialness of getting to see the place in person. I know that I am going to take some heat for my views but ANGC is just so special.

I can't picture an LPGA event at Augusta. They would have to play the member's tees and would probably struggle mightily on the greens until they got several years of experience with them.

I'm with Banker! This isn't the 1950's...... and really don't understand Mrcgamble's statement that having the women play there would take away the "specialness" of the event. As far as BKuehn's statement that they would possibly what? It might make it more enjoyable :)

Yeah. Why not host a hooters tour event there too? No way. I have to agree that it would take away from the tradition.
