Yani Tseng hires new caddie

Earlier this month, Yani Tseng fired her caddie Jason Hamilton using the It's not you it's me routine. Despite a successful run together, the number one female player in the world needed something to propel her out of her recent slump and Jason was the scapegoat.

Well, it didn't take long for the best female golfer to find a new looper in Basil van Rooyen.

Yani Tseng makes her start at the Evian Masters Thursday with a new member of her team in tow.

Basil van Rooyen is Tseng’s new caddie.

Tseng, amid a sluggish spell of golf, let go of her long-time caddie, Jason Hamilton (pictured), after a disappointing finish at the U.S. Women’s Open. Tseng intentionally sought a new caddie from the PGA Tour, Champions Tour and European Tour ranks so as to avoid enticing away a fellow LPGA pro’s caddie. Van Rooyen is a veteran who once caddied for Mark McNulty, Graham DeLaet, Mark James and David Frost.

Yani eluded to the fact that she and Jason may reconnect as a player-caddie duo in the future. But for now, she needed something different, something new to help her get back on track. Hopefully her first round 76 in the Evian Masters is not an indication of what is to come with Basil on the bag or she may end up reuniting with Jason sooner than later.
