Sergio Garcia Wins Wyndham Championship

Sergio Garcia birdied five of his last eight holes en route to his eighth PGA Tour event — his first since the 2008 Players Championship.
Rainy weather left Sergio Garcia stuck in central North Carolina for an extra day. Turns out, it was worth the hassle -- because he's leaving with his first PGA TOUR victory in four years.

Garcia claimed a two-stroke win Monday in the water-logged Wyndham Championship for his first victory on tour since the 2008 PLAYERS Championship.

He finished with a 66 to wind up at 18-under 262, claim $936,000 in prize money and maybe seal a spot on the European Ryder Cup team.

"I think there were a lot of things going on. It shows a lot to me," Garcia said. "Hopefully, this will secure my spot on the Ryder Cup team, and winning is always nice."
A friend of mine text me Saturday night to let me know my boy Bud Cauley was in the final pairing with Sergio. I felt good about Bud's chances because Sergio is a very temperamental player, and if he caught a bad break early on in the final round, the Spaniard would crumble and the tournament would be Bud's to win. But, as it turned out, Sergio managed to play some great golf over the Sunday-Monday finish at Sedgefield Country Club.

Sergio's won four times on the European Tour since his triumph at TPC Sawgrass in 2008, however, he was in a winless drought on the PGA Tour. It's too bad the finish spilled over into Monday as not nearly as many people were able to watch him win. I hope it doesn't take another 51 months for Sergio to find the winner's circle again.

crazy what can happen when you find your putter

It always comes down to putting. I know a lot of ameteurs who can hit it like the pros, but cannot putt like them (or chip like them either, for that matter).

Congrats to Sergio. Good to see him in the winners circle again!

Maybe it was his caddie who was a local caddie, not a PGA Tour caddie.
