Rory McIlroy announces split with Titleist and FootJoy
By mustang6560 on 10/30/12
Rory McIlroy has all but confirmed the rumors that he's joining Tiger Woods at Nike.
The 23-year-old Northern Irishman and Acushnet Co. (Titleist/FootJoy) said in a release Tuesday that they will part ways after this season, meaning McIlroy is free to pursue a more lucrative deal with another company.

That opens the door for Nike, which reportedly is expected to sign McIlroy to a 10-year deal worth upwards of $20 million per year. A company spokesman told last week that they will not discuss rumors or speculation.

Nike has always aggressively pursued the most dominant player in a sport, and signing McIlroy, the world No. 1, would give the swoosh the two biggest names in golf. Tiger Woods has been with the company since he turned pro in 1996, though he only began using Nike clubs in 2002.
I have a question for Titliest and FootJoy loyalist, "How likely are you to leave your Titleist clubs and FootJoy apparel and follow Rory to Nike?"

I plan to chuck all my equipment and outfit myself completely with Nike products. Rory, just say the word and I am off to the golf shop for a complete retrofit.

p.s. what brand of underwear do you use?

love Rory and loved the fact he was a FJ / Titleist player... it will be sad to see him going, but i'm certainly not going to move to Nike...

Who cares? Good for him. ;)

I have two things in my bag that are nike. My 3 wood and my choice of ball. Then once in a while I have a sand wedge I throw in the bag on a course with sand (why put the sand wear and tear on the newer sand wedge lol). The ball is good for me and it works good for me. The 3 metal on the other hand worst club in my bag for me and I'm sure its me not the club its self.

Golf equipment manufacturers are not paying me a dime, so I'll play the brand who I believe best fits me. This has no effect on what I play, wear or lose on a golf course. Oh, and so far, i believe Nike golf equipment is third tier at best; even with Callaway, that why they shell out the big bucks. Otherwise no one would buy their crappy products. The worst golf shoes and golf bag I ever owned were Nike

100% spot on. I'm with you there.

If I were to leave my full bag of wonderful Titleist clubs of which total all except an Adams a12 24* hybrid and Ping Anser putter, Nike would not be my first choice, nor probably 2nd, 3rd, or 4th. Rory or not.
birdieXris says:
I can't stand Nike clubs, or balls for that matter. when i was in the market, i hit the Nike clubs and they just don't feel right to me. Same with the balls. even their "tour spin" variety feels like a rock when i hit it and doesn't spin for me. I bought titleist irons and play a titleist ball. I wear foot joys on my feet and glove, so i definitely won't be following Rory. I play what i hit the best. If it's a Nike, so be it, but right now it's not so i'm not going there.
SpaceMaNy0 says:
@bkuehn, it's sad how many people really WILL do that.
mmontisano says:
i've tried to replace my Nike 3 wood 4 times and nothing has come close to how well i hit it. plus, Tiger has won about 10 of his majors with Nike clubs, so they can't be complete crap. oh, and the worst driver for me was a Mizuno. that thing was awful.
larrynjr says:
Nike makes golf equipment??? no switch to Nike for me, still love my Mizuno's!
