Vijay's meeting with The Commish "mixed"
By mustang6560 on 2/7/13
Vijay Singh lives to play another week.

The Fijian met with PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem yesterday ahead of the first round of the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am to discuss his use deer antler spray, which is banned by the PGA Tour.
Vijay Singh, who admitted last week to using a deer-antler spray that may contain IGF-1 - which is banned by every major sports league and the PGA Tour – met with Tour commissioner Tim Finchem on Wednesday at Pebble Beach.

A member of Singh's management team told Golf Channel's Todd Lewis that reviews of the meeting were "mixed," but declined to offer any further details.

Singh declined an interview request and played a practice round on Spyglass Hill Golf Course.
The good news — for Vijay — is that he's still in the field this week. However, neither party ruled out a possible suspension.

The PGA Tour's anti-doping policy states that a player may face up to an one-year suspension for his first doping violation. The policy also gives the commissioner the power to "depart from the sanction guidance ... as he deems appropriate in a particular case". So, if Vijay's I-didn't-know-deer-antler-spray-was-banned case is convincing enough, Tim may decide to look the other way.

Let's say he gets suspended... he's not going to take a year off. He'll go play in Europe, and he'll probably still play all 4 majors. Where's the punishment?

@mjaber: The European Tour said if the PGA Tour suspended Vijay that it would honor the suspension too.

Wow... didn't hear that. Good for them. Guess he'll have to play the Sunshine Tour, or the Asian Tour.

Any word if Augusta, the USGA, PGA of America, and/or R&A have made a statement on the subject?

Matt McGee says:
It seems to me that Vijay took sort of an "I'm above the rules because I'm Vijay Singh" position when confronted on this subject. If that's an accurate reflection of his attitude, I hope they hit him with significant sanctions. It wouldn't be the first time that he's looked down his nose at the PGA.

As I understand it if he is suspended for a year that would include all of the majors. I doubt if any tour anywhere would allow him to play. At his age it may mean he will have to sit out the year just as if he was recuperating from an injury. The senior tour will certainly get him when he is 50.He has admitted to friends that he is angry at himself because he was hoping to win a few more tour events before he joins the Champions tour as a full time player.
