Daniela Holmqvist survives black widow bite

Thanks to oober jpjeffery for the tip!

During the ISPS Handa Australian Open pre-qualifier, Ladies European Tour rookie Daniela Holmqvist suffered an unusual fate — she was bitten by a black widow spider.
But after punching out of the rough on the fourth hole of the Royal Canberra Golf Club in Tuesday's competition, she felt a sharp stab in her ankle. When she looked down, she saw a large, furry, black creature with a red spot on its back just above her sock line. After quickly swatting it away, she doubled over in pain.

"When I told the local caddies in my group what had happened, they got very upset and said it was a Black Widow, and immediately started looking for their phones to call the medics," Holmqvist told Karin Klarstrom of Svensk Golf.

As Holmqvist's leg started to swell and the pain became intense, she made the quick decision to take matters into her own hands (she'd just been informed that a Black Widow bite can kill a child in as little as 30 minutes). She pulled a tee out of her pocket ("it was the only thing I had handy," she told Svensk Golf) and used it to cut open the wound so she could squeeze out the venom and keep it from spreading inside her body.

"A clear fluid came out," she said. "It wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible."
Not only did Daniela have the wherewithal to remove the venom herself, she also had the guts to finish her round. Unfortunately, her 74 wasn't good enough to earn a spot in the tournament.

So she got bit by a black widow on the 4th hole stabbed her self with a tee squeezed the venom out and played 14 more holes of golf (or 5 if she started on the back 9, still crazy) thats dedication. She should have gotten a spot for her badassness.

Yeah I know you probably heard this one already...doesn't matter. Here goes.
Fella gets bit in the butt by a snake.
His buddy sees it and runs to the doctor.
Doctor tells him, "Take a knife. Cut into the site of the bite. place your mouth on the wound. Suck out the venom. spit it out. Do you understand?"
Buddy nods an says," yeah, yeah got it."
Doc says, "If you don't do this, HE WILL DIE. understand?"
"yeah, yeah."
Buddy runs back to his friend. Friend asks, "what did the doc say?"
Buddy replies, "You're gonna die."

She may have missed the cut, but for her obvious bravery, she deserves a couple of sponsors exemptions — and a Purple Heart-equivalent award.

It's not a black widow. Back home, they're called a red back spider. Same family of spiders (Latrodectus - widow) but not the actual same spider.

There's still a lot of outside dunnies in the bush there and the first thing you do when you go is lift the seat to check for them.

Could have been worse, she could have been bitten by a funnel web...those'll kill you quick.
