Charlie Beljan nearly wins second PGA Tour title

Our man, oober-turned-PGA-Tour-player Charlie Beljan, nearly won his second PGA Tour victory Sunday in the Northern Trust Open. He drained an 18-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with eventual winner John Merrick, however, he bogeyed the second playoff hole (the 10th) to finish second.

Following the final round, Charlie had a few interesting things to say about the 10th hole at Riviera.
"I think you could play here 10,000 times and still not know how to play No. 10," Beljan said. "18 (which he and Merrick parred in the playoff) is a great golf hole. You know, I just find it tough that we go to No. 10. To play a playoff hole, I think it's a great hole, don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking it, but it's just a tough hole to have a playoff on.

"We might as well go and put a windmill out there and hit some putts."
At 315 yards, the 10th at Riviera proves you don't have to build an 8,000-yard track to "protect par".

The 10th hole decided the Northern Trust Open last year, and it decided the tourney again this year ... and it'll probably decide it again next year.

Hehe, someone got sore. Losing sucks. I think he had already handed himself the title, judging by the way he was mugging for the cameras and giving a victory speech, before the playoff had even started. Anyways who cares, screw this guy, this defector.

I must say that over the last 2-3 years I think I have seen snippets of almost every PGA tournament, and if Riviera is'nt the hardest regular stop on tour I don't know what is. Course is brutal even if it isn't the longest.

Every course should a have a drivable risk/reqard par 4, and it should always be the 1st playoff hole of a PGA Tour event.
