"A day like today felt a long way away to be honest"

If the WGC-Cadillac Championship was a film, then Rory McIlroy was a supporting character in a film starring Tiger Woods. The two-time major champion simply couldn't keep up with his fellow Nike stablemate through the first three rounds at TPC Blue Monster.
But Rors found an extra gear Sunday en route to his first dominating performance of the year. He shot a bogey-free 7-under-par 65 that included an eagle and five birdies.
"A day like today felt a long way away to be honest," said McIlroy, who withdrew after eight holes last week at the Honda Classic and struggled in Round 1 at Doral to a 73. "The 7-iron I hit into the first is one of the best shots I've hit."It was nice to see Rory in control of his game Sunday.
Will he be a factor in the first major of the year? We'll have to wait and see, but I'd say the odds are against him winning the Masters.
Following his walk-off withdrawal in the second round of the Honda Classic, Rory's critics were encouraging him to add one more event to his schedule prior to the Masters. Unless something changes, Rory said he plans to keep his schedule the same, which only leaves one more start before heading to Augusta National — the Shell Houston Open.
Long term, Rory needs to do whatever is best for Rory. But as I noted earlier, if Tiger wins the Arnold Palmer Invitational in two weeks, we could see a new world number one by the time the Masters rolls around.

Why don't I go eat some hay, lay by the bay, I just may, what do you say?
