We have a new #1

Stacy Lewis won the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup yesterday to unseat Yani Tseng as the top female golfer in the world.
"Almost 10 years ago I was going into surgery to put a rod and five screws in my back," Lewis said. "I'm really not supposed to be here."
The new No. 1 birdied four of her last six holes to shoot a final round 8-under-par 64 to win by three strokes over Ai Miyazato. It's her second victory in as many starts on the young LPGA season.

Her victory Sunday was more difficult than it should have been. Stacey fired a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 in the third round which left her two strokes off of the lead — or so she thought.

On the par-3 16th, her caddie appeared to test the conditions of a bunker and viewers called both the Golf Channel and the LPGA. After her round, it was determined her caddie breached Rule 13-4 and she was assessed a two-stroke penalty so her four stroke deficit doubled to four.

Following her win, her caddie expressed a great sense of relief.
"It's a huge weight," Wilson said after the victory. "I do everything I can to get her into the winner’s circle. ... It was devastating."
Stacy is only the second American golfer to reach the top position in the Women's World Golf Ranking. Cristie Kerr is the only other American earn the title of No. 1.

AWESOME for Stacey! She is leading the charge for Ladies American golf! I actually met her high school coach this weekend at a tournament we were playing in. She sounds like a TREMENDOUS young woman!!! Easy to root for!!!

I was hoping Nathan wouldn't put up a story about this. I watched the final round and I'm still sick over how it turned out. SICK I tell you. Hate this stupid game.

Lewis was already charging back from a deficit to Miyazato when, shockingly, Miyazato dumped a pitching wedge approach at 16 left, into the desert. That forced her to take an unplayable lie and a huge dent in her scorecard. Meanwhile, Lewis drained several lengthy birdie putts and roared to a win.

This simply confirms that Lewis was extremely deserving of the Player-of-the-Year award at the end of last season. Lewis then celebrated her win in part by greeting a bunch of girls watching greenside at 18; they are part of the LPGA's Girls in Golf program.

Stacy Lewis represents SO much about what is right about our game.

I hope either Stacey or another of the players close to the top gets a stranglehold on #1 for a while. I like it when there is a dominant #1 golfer (i.e. Woods, Sorenstam, Ochoa). I don't like it when they play musical chairs for #1 like when Westwood, Kaymer, Donald and McIlroy were each handing the ranking to each other.

I thought in women's golf Yani Tseng was going to be untouchable for a long time but she sure came back to the pack quickly.

Not sure why but I don't really like her.
