Speaking of Spieth
By Torleif Sorenson on 3/19/13
While Kevin Streelman, Stacy Lewis, and (insert-a-hip-portmanteau-for-Tiger-and-Lindsey-here) were dominating the golf headlines Monday morning, a north Texas native's latest accomplishment seems to have flown under the radar a bit. But as with pretty much everything else in Jordan Spieth's golf career, it was not a fluke.
He's only 19 years old, but already has an impressive résumé:
"Yeah, four weeks ago, fortunate to get an exemption, great guys that run the tournament down in Panama. Fortunate to get an exemption to start playing somewhere, and no status anywhere. Now it's a great feeling to know that I'm at least a temporary member of the TOUR right now."By virtue of finishing T-7 at the PGA Tour's Tampa Bay Championship at Innisbrook, Spieth has secured special temporary membership on the PGA Tour, having earned $521,893 in 2013. As the AP's Doug Ferguson reports, Spieth is roughly $150,000 shy of securing his Tour card for 2014.
BOLD, UNPRECEDENTED, AND PREPOSTEROUS PREDICTION:
Spieth will not only secure his PGA Tour card for 2014, but will come within an eyelash of winning a 2013 PGA Tour event.
