What's Old Is New Again

Tiger Woods is back — to the top of golf.

The former world number one won his record eighth Arnold Palmer Invitational Monday to reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Woods never let anyone closer than two shots in the final round at Bay Hill that was delayed one day by storms. With a conservative bogey he could afford on the last hole, he closed with a 2-under 70 for a two-shot win over Justin Rose.

Next up is the Masters, where Woods will try to end his five-year drought in the majors.

Woods fell as low as No. 58 in the world as he coped with a crisis in his personal life and injuries to his left leg. One week after he announced he was dating Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn, Woods celebrated his third win of the season, and his sixth going back to Bay Hill a year ago.

"It's a byproduct of hard work, patience and getting back to winning golf tournaments," Woods said.
Tiger joined Sam Snead as only the second player in history to win a PGA Tour event eight times.

The current world number one (feels weird to type) is scheduled to play in the second round of the Tavistock Cup tomorrow, but he'll skip the first Texas two-step to prepare for The Masters.

Despite his strong recent play, he's o-fer in the majors since defeating Rocco Mediate on one leg in the 2008 U.S. Open. He regained the No. 1 spot in the OWGR, the FedExCup Points List, and the PGA Tour Money List, but the majority of golf fans are waiting until he wins his 15th major before admitting he's "officially back".

Rory does have a chance to take the No. 1 ranking back with a strong performance at the Houston Shell Open this week.

So if he gets stomped at the Tavistock Cup tomorrow, does that mean he's done?

Not officially back? If the guy is not back then tell me where the heck he is. Back at #1, starring in tv commercials, hitting clutch shots, firing up crowds, intimidating fields again. Even the personal life seems to be doing good. "but the majority of golf fans are waiting"? I don't think so! Stop waiting, live in the now man.

You are dead on, Beef. Tiger is for real. Did you see those crowds on a Monday? They weren't there to see Justin Rose, no disrespect to him. Or Ricky Fowler. I don't think the "majority" of informed golf fans are still waiting for a major from Tiger. The majority of golf fans are smart enough to see that Tiger is the real deal again. It's only a few Tiger haters who need to see a major win for any sort of validation. As if 6 wins in the last year and a quarter doesn't mean a thing. Is anyone else even close? I think not.
