Is It Masters Week Yet?
By mustang6560 on 4/2/13
The Masters, the only major championship to be played at the same course every year, is next week!
Any oobers lucky enough to be attending?
I more than struck out in the ticket lottery again so I'll be watching the first major of the year from the comfort of my living room couch.
For a brief moment in time, I did consider driving to Augusta since it's only eight hours away. Then I read that tickets were going for $1,000+ per day and decided against it. According to The Augusta Chronicle, a single-day pass starts $1,215. Plus, remember the 24 patrons who were arrested last year for trying to scalp tickets?
I've never been to Augusta National so I cannot provide any useful advice, but if you are one of the lucky few who are attending The Masters, then you probably want to read Golf Digest's slideshow "The Insider's Guide To Masters Week".
For those of you who have been to The Masters before, feel free to chime in with further advice.

I was surprised to read that it's more expensize to get tickets to the Master's than to either the Super Bowl or BCS National "Championship" game.
I went last year and it was AWESOME! My Son and I were there on Wednesday and it was WAY cool. We actually had guys come up to us in the parking lot asking to buy our tickets. I told them they didn't have enough money with them!!! They didn't like that answer. I would NOT go to jail just to try to get a scalped ticket so I would keep trying in the lottery or wait for me to win again Nathan and I will take you!!!
The Augusta craigslist is full of sketchy looking ads for badges. I could probably get a ticket through another means but its more $$$$ than I would shell out. Friends of mine drove over last year during practice day mid week and scored tickets off the street. One for $50 and one for $250... pretty good! I was supposed to go with them but had work issues that prevented. Those are my same buddies who spent all day out on Kiawah during PGA Champ when I was stuck on the shuttle bus and got turned away because of weather, those lucky dogs! Really though, I am the lucky one, as I got to go to The Masters Thursday once for basically nothing, oh how I wish that connection were still around!
I have been lucky enough to go twice, and will be attending again this year on wednesday practice round / par 3 contest. First time was in '07 got lucky to go up on a private flight, hospitality house, and private flight back. In '11 was the best got two tickets through the lottery for monday practice round and got to take my father, memory of a lifetime to be able to spend the day there with him. Played World Woods (both courses) on the way home. This year I won four tickets for the wednesday practice round and will be taking both my father and mother (we all golf, my father and myself a bit more golf addicts than my mother but it will be fun to spend the day with them both at ANGC).
No, it's next week.
This week was my first time to go to the Shell Houston Open. I parked at the Houston Intergalactic Airport Golf parking lot which was free. Got an air conditioned $5.00 shuttle to the course and met a lady who gave me a free ticket. Four beers and a hamburger later total cost $35. The free goodie bag with all the stuff collected was neat, And a good time was had by all.
