A Horsch Race, Down To The Wire

How good was Billy Horschel's final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on Sunday?
  • Horschel carded nine birdies — including six in a row from 7 to 12 — against only one bogey.

  • Horschel started the day only two shots behind Lucas Glover, but with all those birdies, still found himself neck-and-neck with D.A. Points most of the afternoon. Points himself shot an impressive 65.

  • Horschel's 64 established a new course record at TPC Louisiana.

  • With his first professional win, Horschel has cemented a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, as well as qualifying for the season-opening Tournament of Champions, the Masters, and many limited-field events.

  • Horschel also earned 500 FedEx Cup points, vaulting him from 14th to third, behind only Tiger Woods and Brandt Snedeker.
Given how Horschel was facing D.A. Points, who defeated him by one stroke in Houston last month, how Horschel had to play through a swarm of bees, a Sunday afternoon lightning storm, and even some creeping crocodiles, to close the deal with a 27-foot birdie putt, his reaction is quite understandable:

amazing. I particularly like how he just stood up to it and gave it a crack. Didn't give his mind any time to defeat himself.
