"Bump Cityyyyyyyy..."
Dropping (Out) Like Flies at Quail Hollow
By Torleif Sorenson on 5/1/13
Last week, we told you about Tiger Woods sticking to his usual three-week break following The Masters Tournament, meaning that he will not be participating in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

But the real story involves four greens at Quail Hollow requiring all new bent-grass sod following our unusually lengthy winter. The speculation is that Woods, who won at Quail Hollow in 2007, really withdrew because of the spoiled putting surfaces and resulting emergency repairs at 8, 10, 12, and 13. And now, more PGA Tour stars have withdrawn from this week's Wells Fargo Championship:
  • Ian Poulter traveled to Charlotte to meet with participants in a local Boys & Girls Club, but still withdrew from Quail Hollow, citing "personal reasons."

  • Dustin Johnson backed out, claiming a sore wrist.

  • Vijay Singh has also withdrawn, citing "a sore back." (Read: Sore ego.)
One tour star who is highly unlikely to withdraw is 2012 U.S. Open Champion Webb Simpson, who lives at Quail Hollow. The AP's Doug Ferguson reported that Simpson said, "It's tough to see. I think their biggest challenge is going to try to get it to be the same firmness and speed of the other greens."

If I had the same speed and firmness on the greens I play I actually might be a good putter!

Is this really that big of a deal? It's the same conditions for everyone out there so just deal with it.
