Sergio Strikes Again!
By mustang6560 on 5/22/13
The Sergio Garcia said, Tiger Woods said — or the pro-Sergio marshal said, pro-Tiger marshal said — feud is over.

The Spaniard brought "Marshalgate" to an abrupt end last night. At the European Tour's awards dinner Tuesday ahead of the BMW PGA Championship, Sergio was asked if he planned to invite Tiger over for dinner during the week of the U.S. Open next month.

In an apparent failed attempt at humor, the Spaniard replied:
"We will have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken."
Sergio, or one of his close associates, realized his comments were going to send a shockwave across the pond quickly and immediately released a statement through the European Tour.
"I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players' Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner."
Tiger responded to Sergio's remarks via Twitter a little over an hour ago. He said:
The comment that was made wasn't silly. It was wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate...

I'm confident that there is real regret that the remark was made.

The Players ended nearly two weeks ago and it's long past time to move on and talk about golf.
The good news, as I mentioned above, is the Tiger-Sergio feud is over — for now. Sergio simply cannot make any further comments on the situation or he'll lose even more fans.

Does anyone else want to see a Tiger-Sergio final round pairing at Merion?

Do we really care what these two have to say off the course? I am only interested in their golf ability and competition, outside of that, who cares?

Now we see what really drives Sergio's dislike for Tiger. Coming from another man of color?? I expect that from the good ole boys like Fuzzy. Anyone who is offended by racism has been living under a rock..it just aint going nowwhere. Why did he not pick on the Thai side..it always has to be the brother...lol..Sergio sounds like a lil scorned "BIOTCH"

All anyone has to do is to read some of the golf blogs to see what rampant racism is. Sometime the subject matter has nothing at all to do with Tiger but several people will pile on with smarmy comments about him. You can't teach dumb. It,s inherited.

Spaniards are some of the most overtly racist people out there. Their national basketball team, posed for a team photo where everyone pulled their eyelids back in an imitation of a Chinese person. In soccer matches black players have been heckled with monkey noises and bananas thrown on the field. Spaniards being Spaniards, nothing we can do about it. Not every country is going to have the same sense of humor or sense of decency.

To be fair everyone is racist to a point. Most people just try hard to not be overtly racist.

It is an evolutionary trait that has helped the human race survive. Unfortunatly now for the most part it is an unnecessry trait, but it takes 1000's of years to undo something that has evolved into our psychy.

Everyone has a degree of prejudice. That is totally different than being a racist. People balance their feelings of prejudice by recognizing how futile, unmoral and unproductive it is. Racism is based upon a mindless belief that they are better than someone else. They blame others for the condition that they find themselves in.It usually is totally unfounded and is the worst form of class division. I would venture to say that the majority of racists have had little or no contact with those they despise and use stupid beliefs to support their position.

there are archetypes and then there are stereotypes. Important to know the difference and how they can inform racist tendencies. Garcia is simply an overt racist. Enough said, move on.

I really dont see the difference between being prejudice and racist. Racism is just a form of prejudism.

Maybe I'm wrong?

J- Fish ..Racism has helped the human race survive???? Explain that one to me...so without racism we would not be in existance???

jasonfish11 says:
Back in the day (caveman times) would it be wise to walk up to a group of strangers? No you'd probably be dead. So it became ingraned in our psychy that we need to be on the look out for people who are different from us.

jasonfish11 says:
Oh I'm not trying to defend Sergio. I just think it is retarded to think racism should just "go away." It is 1000s of years of evolution and it will take just as long for it to go away.

But that doesn't make it right.

People are gonna be who they are..at the end of the day. The funny thing is the racist always open mouth and then insert foot....here comes the awesome part...then they try and apologize and pretend that they are not racist..who cares..be who you are....what you eat dont make me poop!

jasonfish11 says:
K.
I'm going to drop the subject cause its getting tiring. But I agree its retarded that people pretend not to be racist, as I feel that 99%+ of the people currently on this planet are racist to some extent.

Everyone (including myself) should aknowledge their shortcomings and work to improve them, perfection may be imposible for any one person but improvement is not.

legitimatebeef says:
jasonfish, I happen to agree with that worldview. What I find weird about 2013 is that so many ppl are so mortified of the concept that they try to deny that it really exists. "Sure, there is racism out there, but no way that *I* am a racist, and there's no way that *you* are a racist, and even though Sergio Garcia made a racist *remark*, I am certain that *he* is not a racist..." and so on. Personally I think that to conclude that someone is categorically not racist, is like WHOA, gigantic assumption to make about someone esp. someone you don't know. But that's whats going down, right now. Like you I believe most of us have our prejudices and they are often racial in nature. Its more a question of, are you civilized or uncivilized, are you dignified or undignified. And so on. You have prejudices and assumptions about me, fine with me, I probably have some of my own, about you. Just don't murder me, hate crime me or try to steal my stuff is all we can really hope for and even that is tenuous at best.
