U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying Is Over

Golf's Longest Day is officially over.
The 36-hole all-or-nothing grind-fest is in the record books and 57 players are headed to Merion next week to compete in the "Most Democratic" major championship in golf — the U.S. Open.
Geoff Shackelford wrote a nice wrap-up from the 11 Sectional Qualifying sites across the great U.S. of A. There are several interesting stories, as you would expect, including two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen's DQ at the Woodmont Country Club sectional and amateur Brandon Matthew's close call at the Century Country Club & Old Oaks Country Club sectional.
GolfChannel.com also published a write-up from each sectional including the players who qualified and a brief summary of the action. Max Homa, the 2013 NCAA individual champion qualified out of the Big Canyon and Newport Beach Country Club sectional and already tweeted at Tiger Woods to request a practice round next week.
I know there are several oobers who are working toward attempting to qualify for the U.S. Open., which I think is a fantastic (and somewhat fantastical) goal. I'd like to try and compete in a local qualifying event one day. It's OK to dream, right?
