"While We're Young"
By Torleif Sorenson on 6/12/13
USGA President Glen Nager today announced a new pace-of-play promotional effort, with a title borrowed from a line by Rodney Dangerfield's character in the 1980 film Caddyshack:
"While We're Young."
"Our new campaign underscores a commitment to educate golfers and golf facility managers in a fun and engaging manner about all the factors that contribute to pace of play and the role they can have in implementing practical solutions to the problem."Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, Clint Eastwood, Annika Sorenson, and Paula Creamer all appear in a set of public service announcements. This is just one part of a multi-pronged effort by the USGA to fix this cancer that is eating away at the enjoyment of the game.
The PSA featuring Clint Eastwood and Arnold Palmer is good. And considering his admirably controlled scolding of Erik Compton at Torrey Pines, Tiger Woods presumably didn't have to be asked twice to participate. But if the USGA wants to make these even funnier, they should ask CBS late night host Craig Ferguson and his writing staff to help — or David Feherty.

Tiger's spot WAS funny!
Everybody but Annika. Comedic gold and great message... i don't think she really gets it.
Tiger has as many funny commercials as wins in 2013.
I'm with birdie here. Annika's one was pretty lame.
Duke of Hazards says:
Please please let K.J. do a spot in his native tongue.
I didn't find any of them amusing.
Need to find the old Tiger commercial where he impersonated Carl Spackler.
I understand the need to use "big" names... but why couldn't they get Rocco Mediate and Paul Goydos involved somehow?
Of the ones I've seen so far... The Clint Eastwood/Arnold Palmer one is the funniest.
Duke of Hazards says:
Yeah, Eastwood scowling and Palmer's reaction was the only slightly humorous moment. With the talent out there in both TV and web media, looks like some USGA fuddy duddy gave creative control of this campaign to their spoiled dimwitted nephew.
I would have laughed if Arnold Palmer walked onto a green today while Jim Furyk was putting, and said "While we're young." Also, they just had re-aired Tiger's, and I had missed the end where he paid homage to Rodney, by saying "I get no respect."
Scott Shields says:
I don't like the phrase "while we're young" ... its too light hearted for a problem that is very serious. It should be "You're ruining the game by being selfish, and frankly you're not good enough to play this slow" ...
But that would be too long I suppose.
MB 2.0 says:
I guess the people who don't think these spots are funny, are the pain-in-the-ass slow players, we all hate. Oh, Annika, your delivery is right in the lumber yard!!!
