9-holes for $9.11 on 9/11
By mustang6560 on 9/10/13

As you all know, tomorrow is September 11, 2013.

Unlike the day before and the day after, 9/11/2013 is a unique day -- it marks the 12th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, a day we'll not soon forget.

To honor the date, Tumbledown Trails Golf Course ran an ad (displayed above) in the Wisconsin State Journal announcing its special 9/11 pricing -- 9-holes for $9.11.

As you might expect, the ad sparked outrage, so the course was forced to issue an apology.
We would first like to apologize to everyone that we have upset or feels we have disrespected in anyway. By no means did we mean to do this.

Here is what we will do this Wednesday 9-11; we will still let all that have tee times booked play for the previous rates we posted.

Then for all other golf that day we would like to donate the $ difference between our normal rate and the previous price for the day to the 9/11 Memorial.

We hope that everyone will now see this as a positive as we really meant it to be. Again we do sincerely apologize for offending anyone & hope that you do accept our sincere apology.
Thank you
There is no such thing as bad press, right?

America's new national pastime is outrage.

While I totally agree with Matt's comment above, the tone of the ad leaves much to be desired.

They certainly didn't consult an actual writer before submitting that advertisement...

The ad was worded in the wrong way but the thought was there. Things are too PC now days. Where were the people that are all raging against this when people were profiting off of 9/11 oh they were to busy spending their money on 9/11 stuff so others could make a load of money ok got it.

Matt McGee says:
The ad/promotion was definitely a terrible idea. I agree, sans outrage.

I dont think the ad was a bad idea. Just poorly worded. I still think the outrage is asinine.

Am I the only one to notice that 18 holes costs $19.11 and two 9 hole rounds would only be $18.22 ?

Matt McGee says:
I think I'd rather see a promotion on the day that the U.S. military took out Osama bin Laden than this. Maybe it's just the way it's worded, but I don't like the idea of using 9/11 as a promotional tool. I don't think I'd care for it under any circumstances, unless it was for the benefit of the people most directly affected by the 9/11 attack.

Agree. They should have put in the ad that the money was going to a 9/11 charity.

This is bad. Earlier in the year, I got a similar promo email from one of the tee-time sites (I forget which one) that attempted to capitalize on MLK Jr Day by offering 18 holes for $19.63. 1963 being the year that Dr. King was brutally slain. God, I hate people.

The world would be a lot better place without people.
