Henrik Stenson Wins Tour Championship, FedExCup

Henrik Stenson hit the golf jackpot yesterday.

His wire-to-wire victory at the season-ending Tour Championship earned him a cool $1.44 million and his first place finish in the FedExCup Playoffs added a $10 million bonus.
"Since the Scottish Open, it's been just an incredible run," he said. "I'm speechless. It was a tough day out there. To hang in there the way I did, I'm really satisfied. ... It hasn't quite sunk in yet. I had to fight hard mentally to keep all this aside, and I managed to do that. It's going to feel better as the week goes on. I'm pretty sure about that."
Henrik closed with a 2-under 68 Sunday to post a three shot victory over Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker. But the final round was far from stress-free for the Swede.

Jordan birdied holes seven, eight and nine to turn in 33 and rattled off four straight birdies on 13-17 to pull within one of Henrik. He bogeyed the par-4 15th to end his impressive run.
"Henrik obviously was playing phenomenal golf," Spieth said. "I felt like once a few putts started falling, we have a shot at it."
The Texan started the season with no status and finished seventh in the FedExCup Points, the highest finish by a rookie ever.

In addition to Jordan's late run, Steve Stricker eagled the par-5 15th to pull within two down the stretch. The semi-retired Wisconsinite managed to get up and down for par from behind the green on the 16th but couldn't convert either birdie putt on the final two holes.

Henrik rebounded nicely from his meltdown at the BMW Championship to cap off a stellar second half of the season, which included a runner-up finish at the Open Championship, a third place finish at the PGA Championship and two victories in the FedExCup Playoffs.

If the Swede finishes his European Tour campaign in a similar fashion to his PGA Tour season, he can become the first player to win the FedExCup and Race to Dubai in the same year.

The Big $wede!!!, awesome.

Wow. Henrik is a physical specimen. He hits his 3 wood as far as most hit the driver. What is the story on the "special" irons he has made in japan. Are they a known brand or does he have a secret weapon. The commentators talked about the sound they made when he flushed one. Just wondering.
joe jones says:
Before oobers comment I assume that Stenson uses Callaway irons. I heard several references by TV commentators that he had exotic irons in his bag. Just looking for clarification.
mmontisano says:
yes, they are Callaways. they're called the Legacy Black forged irons. their Legacy line i've only seen in Asia, so i'm not sure if anyone in the US can get them.

joe jones says:
It's a pretty sure bet they will be available in the U S very soon. Callaway doesn't miss much.
mmontisano says:
actually, Callaway and Taylormade do "Asia only" clubs all the time. you can find them on Ebay every once in a while. just beware, you have to pay attention to the shafts. if the shafts are to Japanese specifications, step up a grade in stiffness. US specs are heavier and more stiff.
