PGA Tour Announces Player and Rookie of the Year

As expected, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth won PGA Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively.
"On behalf of the PGA TOUR, my congratulations to Tiger and Jordan for their impressive performances in 2013," said PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem. "Tiger's five wins came against some of the strongest fields in golf including THE PLAYERS and two World Golf Championships while Jordan's rookie season was historic in terms of his accomplishments for a player just 20 years old. The member vote reflects the respect their peers have for both players."Here is the news conference.
I am curious to see how Jordan follows up his impressive rookie season. I hope he's equally impressive next year and doesn't fall into the dreaded "sophomore slump".

Was there ever a doubt? To put it in perspective when Zach Johnson won the BMW and reached 10 win's he was misty eyed about reaching double digit wins in 10 years. Which is no small accomplishment many pro's don't have double digit win totals. Tiger had 5 this year alone and 8 in two years. We can't judge Tiger against Tiger, he has to be judged against the field and the field knows that and hence he got the award.

Between the droning, uninterested tone of voice, using the "with regard to" phrase twice, and obviously reading from a press release, Finchem was NOT the right person to make this announcement, commissioner or no.
What do we need to do? Feed Finchem a six-pack of Red Bull before the teleconference?
Tiger may not be the golfer he once was, but he was still better than everyone else this year. He deserves PoY and the Tour players who voted, know it. You don't necessarily have to be the most liked player to win PoY, just the most respected for your accomplishments during the year. I wonder if he would win if the fans got the vote. I would vote for him.
