Greg Norman 'Cut Off' From Presidents Cup
By Torleif Sorenson on 10/3/13
As reported by Fox Sports golf writer Robert Lusetich, Greg Norman is upset that, unlike Fred Couples, he was not brought back to captain the International team at the Presidents Cup for a third time.
"Freddie came to me right after the Presidents Cup in Australia and said, 'I'll do it again if you do it again.' I said, 'OK, I'm in.' So, yeah, it came as a big surprise to me to get a phone call at late stages out of the blue from [PGA Tour commissioner] Tim [Finchem].

"Let's just say it's disappointing. Extremely disappointing."
Here's the thing: Fred Couples, Jack Nicklaus, and Peter Thomson have all captained their respective Presidents Cup teams at least three times. Nicklaus has captained four times, going 2-1-1.

Lusetich speculates that Norman's endorsement contract with Omega watches might be one reason Nick Price was selected instead. Norman was previously a Rolex endorser; Rolex remains one of the PGA Tour's corporate partners.
"Look, I know that Rolex is a corporate partner of the PGA Tour and there's been some speculation I've heard that that was the reason why. If that's right, then all I can say is that it's really pathetic.

"The other sad part about it is that nobody has reached out to me or any of my past team and asked us what we thought would be good changes to make, or ideas we might have had about the Presidents Cup.

"We were just completely cut off.

"Not one of the team I had is on the International team for this year.

"It really doesn't make a lot of sense because there is experience there. I know other people want a shot at it, but why wouldn't you want to hear the opinions of those who came before you?"

Is that a great whine shark? Or wine, either way works.

Interesting that the PGA Tour selects the captains for both teams. That probably contributes to the lack of a competitive atmosphere.

I have to agree with Norman, it was a clear snub by Finchem.

How great would it be if Lee Westwood, who is endorsed by UPS, won the FedExCup?

Norman would like to think its a snub, but he 2 cracks at it and lost both times. Time to let someone else have a turn.
