Rors Roars Down Under
By Torleif Sorenson on 12/2/13
On Friday, we noted that Rory McIlroy was close behind Adam Scott after two rounds of the Australian Open at Royal Sydney Golf Club. This writer had a feeling that Rory really had a shot at winning this thing.
The Holywood Matinee Idol came through in dramatic style, sinking the hometown crowd's hopes to see native son Adam Scott pull off the Aussie Triple Crown. McIlroy sank a twelve-foot birdie at the 72nd hole to card a 66 and defeat Scott by one stroke. It is the Northern Irishman's first tournament victory in 2013.
McIlroy avoided bogey, posted an eagle at 7 and four birdies, hit 13 of 18 GIR, and took 27 putts to seal the deal.
The 24-year-old McIlroy was quite magnanimous to the gathered audience during the trophy presentation:
"I'm sorry that I had to ruin Adam's triple crown. He's had a phenomenal year. It's a real credit to him that he came down and played all four weeks. It would have been very easy to skip a couple... to play four in a row is a credit to him.

Nice bird on the 72nd...
oh, & bad bogie.
It's about time! It was hard being a Rory fan in 2013...

Nice to see Rory playing well again. Whether it was the last event of 2013 or the first of 2014 the upcoming year should be exciting.
Being Irish I should probably be a fan, by I don't care for him too much. He seems like a dork and the videos don't help his case.
if Adam would have putted instead of using the lob wedge, I feel there would have been a different outcome. but still an amazing year for him. so glad to have 2 of my favorite players to have great years at the same time.
