Rory Commits To Honda
By Torleif Sorenson on 2/6/14
Rory McIlroy was roundly criticized for withdrawing from the 2013 Honda Classic during the second round. To his credit, McIlroy issued a mea culpa, admitting his mistake. But as the 2012 winnner of this PGA Tour event, McIlroy is returning to the event — and looking forward to it:
"I really can't wait to get back to The Honda. It is one of my favorite events of the year, and winning in 2012 was an important landmark in my career. Having a place in Palm Beach now also gives the tournament a kind of special feeling - nearly like a home event.

"Last year, admittedly, I had a tough week; a forgettable week. I guess I let frustrations get the better of me and perhaps should have adopted a more mature approach."
Not only has he done that, but in winning the Australian Open in November, McIlroy seems to have gotten past the on-course problems that ruined the 2013 season for him.
"I'm playing really well now, enjoying the game much more and I am looking forward to getting back to PGA National. You could nearly say that I have unfinished business to attend to this year at The Honda.

"I feel good about my game and feel like I'm back to the place that I want to be. I'm driving the ball well, hitting the ball solid and giving myself plenty of chances for birdies. If I can keep doing that, the wins will come."
With one important win Down Under and a marked improvement in his game overall since last year, he'll need that confidence; The Champion Course at PGA National Resort & Spa is one of Jack Nicklaus's more challenging designs.
