No Replacement Yet For Eisenhower Tree
By Torleif Sorenson on 2/27/14

Three things are interesting about this photograph, taken by Mark Immelman, Sirius XM announcer and brother of 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman.

  1. As of Tuesday, the Augusta National Golf Club officers and committee members have not yet replaced the famous Eisenhower Tree at the 17th hole. The iconic loblolly pine was destroyed in a winter storm earlier this month.

With the ANGC grounds staff having placed pine straw over the site, it is reasonable to assume that The Club might decide to leave this portion of the 17th hole as it is for this year's Masters Tournament. The big event begins on Thursday, April 10.

  2. If you look at the periphery of the photograph, you can see that dozens of other pine trees are also missing either needles on the branches, or dozens of branches altogether. This will give you some idea of the ferociousness of the winds and snow that blasted the entire Augusta region, not just the course.

  3. Mark Immelman posted the photograph on his Twitter feed on Wednesday. But by this morning, the tweet and the photo were inexplicably gone. Several sports web sites had linked to the Tweet, but now those links are broken. But before it disappeared forever, several publications and blogs, including Geoff Shackelford's, reproduced the photo for posterity.

This writer's guess is that Augusta National Golf Club "reached out" to the brother of the 2008 Masters champion and "explained" to him that they would be "extremely desirous" of removal of that particular photograph from his Twitter feed.

"So" you "say" how much the Club "would" be "against" use of "the" photo, then "post" it for "everyone" to see. "Nice."

Sarcasm, I like it.

Two things, I never realized how uphill that hole appears to be and do you think that guy in the pine straw is glad that tree is gone right now
mustang6560 says:
@Dusty23- I've never known a golfer who missed a tree once it was gone.
mmontisano says:
Augusta has a strict rule of no phones while on the course, and that photo was evidence that he broke the rule.
jasonfish11 says:
Do they have a no camera rule too? Phones aren't the only things that take pictures
jpjeffery says:
Those Augusta National guys really do have their heads up their backsides, don't they?
