Tiger Withdraws From Bay Hill
By Torleif Sorenson on 3/19/14
Late Tuesday afternoon, Tiger Woods was forced to do what he wanted to avoid:

On his web site, Tiger went into more detail:
"I personally called Arnold today to tell him that, sadly, I won't be able to play in his tournament this year. I would like to express my regrets to the Orlando fans, the volunteers, the tournament staff and the sponsors for having to miss the event. Unfortunately, my back spasms and the pain haven't subsided.

It's too early to know about the Masters, and I will continue to be evaluated and work closely with my doctors. I feel badly that I won't be able to play in this great tournament this week."
This writer wishes Tiger Woods had backed out of the Honda Classic and the WGC-Cadillac at Doral, instead of trying to play through back spasms that hampered him at both events. Given his long history of arm, leg, and back injuries, some of us would have thought that Tiger would have approached his upcoming schedule more cautiously.

There has been a lot of talk from commentators and experts that Tiger's back problems are from his work out regimen. I personally feel that it was his gym work contributed greatly to his tremendous success and without it he would not have been able to play at his high level for as long as he has.Think Gary Player and his routines. Golf puts huge stresses on the body especially the lower back. Many golfers in the past have had lower back problems caused by the so called reverse C position of the classic swing. History tells us that golfers are forced to change their swing to give relief to the back. Tiger is not the first to face this problem and he won,t be the last. Just think Freddy Couples. Nobody looked smoother than Fred but his back has been a problem for years. Tiger may have to redesign his swing again but this time to just continue playing. Will he? I don't know. I just know I hope he can.

He did adjust his schedule. I can't remember the last time he skipped the Accenture Match Play. Get well, Tiger. I'd hate to see you miss Augusta.

The only thing that will help his back is pure rest.... and drugs... lots of drugs. Mostly steroids. The back needs to heal> if i were him, i wouldn't do a damn thing between now and the masters. Not one. Take some NSAIDS and whatever his doctor prescribes to try and get his body to heal. He shouldn't be at the gym, he shouldn't be doing appearances. Sit down, crack a V8 and catch up on House of Cards or something. I don't like his character but he needs to get better... quite frankly i can't stand the bitching and withdrawals from tournaments. Get better so there's other golf news!

I can now look forward to some coverage of other players. Sweet.

As a long suffering back patient I would say that a while mass quanitity of drugs is never a bad thing, too much rest is actually going to work against you. Every muscle and connective tissue within a hundred miles of that injury is going to tighten up in the bodies attempt to protect the damaged area. rest? yes, but he should continue to work on flexibility. Other than that, I hope he never comes back.

I can vouch for the rest is bad in some cases. When I went to a chiropractor a few years back I asked him if I could still play golf and he looked shocked while telling me no, no, no. I then continued playing because for a month or two golfing was literally the only thing to make my back feel any better. If Eldrick misses the Masters Tournament (should I put the copyright thing there?) I'd be surprised.

Trip, we may get more coverage of other players, but they'll be comparing them to what tiger would do, or whether tiger will be ready for the masters, and why tiger isn't there today, Of course when Watson makes a remarkable shot, it's just "lucky"

We should play a drinking game during the Arnold Palmer Invitational. A shot every time they mention Tiger and the Masters in one sentence.
