A Tale Of Two Matts In Houston
By Torleif Sorenson on 4/7/14
What is it with Australian golfers these last few months?
The defending Masters champion, Adam Scott, also won the Barclays, the PGA of America's Grand Slam of Golf, the Australian PGA, the (Australian) and the Talisker Masters last year. (Scotty's on fire.)
Then, Jason Day won the WGC-Match Play in Tuscon in February. Four weeks later, John Senden won the Valspar outside Tampa. Two weeks after that, Steven Bowditch secured his PGA Tour card and a Masters invite by winning the Valero Texas Open.
And then on Sunday at the Shell Houston Open, Sydney-sider Matt Jones drilled a long bomb on the 72nd hole to get into a playoff with American Matt Kuchar:
(That's the way the Kuchar krumbles...)
In winning at Houston, Matt Jones earned the very last invite to this year's Masters Tournament, which begins on Thursday. With the addition of Jones, Australia will have six professionals and amateur Oliver Goss competing at Augusta National. This makes the Australian contingent the second-largest at Augusta National this year, behind only the Americans.
Would anybody like to bet against the Australians, now?

I'm glad Mr. Jones won. I couldn't believe my ears when that fowl mouthed Kuchar screamed..... I'm not sure I can type this. "GOLLY, MATTY" after sending it into the pond on the 72nd.
Disgusting language! When will it stop?
That's the way the Kuchar krumbles...Nice Caption, but you forgot, and Krumbles and Krumbles...so on! What's with going for the green there anyway, par would have won it bonehead. Love the guy, but he's going the "Phil Route" here. Hope he recovers at the Masters...and WIN in the final nine in style...show those Australian guys he's got it in-em to win.
Oh I forgot, "Golly-Gee Matty" Come On! Gee, OOB Golf let's you print anything! Well said, slimpks1850...my girl and I cracked up too watching that Sunday.
