One tournament champion, but a different winner
By Torleif Sorenson on 7/21/14
Former Super Bowl MVP quarterback Mark Rypien defeated retired hockey superstar Jeremy Roenick and World Golf Hall of Fame member Annika Sörenstam on Sunday to take the trophy at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Stateline, Nevada. But Rypien was not the ultimate winner — or the hero.
Those titles belong to one retired United States Army Corporal Chad Pfeifer.
As the excellent and experienced sportswriter Sean Jensen points out, Pfeifer is a hero not just because he lost most of his left leg to an IED while serving the United States (and the free world) in Iraq. He is impressive because of the obstacles he has overcome. Jensen's article on Pfeifer is too compelling and too well-written to be briefly summarized here.
Please read it, oobers — all of it.
To paraphrase the late, great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Chad Pfeifer is a hero — not because of his appearance, but because of the content of his character.

The American Century Celebrity Golf Championship is an exiting tourney @ a great course. The finishing holes are exiting.
I couldn't watch because, again, it was the same weekend as The British Open. Stop scheduling it the same week. bozos.
