The Famed 16th Party Hole!
By Kickntrue on 2/3/11
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is underway which means we get to hear about the wild 16th. We may as well examine the phenomenon. I feel like there is probably still a pretty big difference between what the media shows on the 16th and what really happens. This is mostly because they only show the action when pros are on the tee or green. The real fun though- is in the down times.
Here a few videos I found on YouTube that I think probably represent the "real" experience a bit better. I know there are oobers out there with first hand experience- so please feel free to share.
(Language warning on some of these videos. Enjoy.)
And now- if you're still "in it" - a longer produced video including Tiger's ace from back in 1997.

I have nothing to add. I'm just bored, at work, waiting for 5 o'clock.

Holy cow, that looks fun!
It's on my bucket list to get out there.
It is the funniest place to hang out for a day. I have heard the crowd sing golfers’ “Happy Birthday” and even come up with a college fight song for the golfers. Just don't miss the green... You will really hear it then. I played TPC Scottsdale and the 16th hole just isn't the same after the Coliseum is taken down. It is just a normal 157 yard Par 3.
Saw them chanting "Plug that hole" as the grouds crew was changing the hole location between rounds.
It's golf's version of the third turn of the Infield at the Kentucky Derby.
