New Nike Golf 20XI Commercial
By mustang6560 on 4/20/11
In general, Nike does a great job with its brand management and product placement. I think it's legit that the only logo you'll find on Nike sponsored golfers is the swoosh.

But, the new marketing campaign for the 20XI golf balls is, well, cheesy. It features a black stallion (or some kind of horse) running down a golf hole, tearing up the fairway and cutting through a sandtrap. The video itself was artistically done. It accomplishes what I think Nike was trying to do, draw comparisons between the power and speed of a race horse to its new golf ball. But, the whole idea lacks originality and frankly, I expect more from Nike.

The first time I saw this commercial, I felt like I was watching a Slazenger commercial. If you've missed the Slazenger Raw golf ball commercials, you should feel lucky (and I'll spare you). The last thing Nike should be trying to do is be like Slazenger.

What do you think? Am I being over-critical? I would, however, like to give Nike a +1 for sharing the code for the video. This is just another example of how Nike "gets it". In the Internet age, nobody should hide the embed code, yet you find big companies who post videos but don't share the code.

The parallels between a black horse and a golf ball escape me. Clearly I lack imagination.

On the subject of the Slazenger ads where the macho guys eat raw meat and out hit the wimpy guys, I always wondered why a macho guy needed a distance ball in the first place. They were already sooooo good that using a "distance ball" seemed pointless.

The horse is Tiger, the fairway is his life choices. Simple, look closer you can see a Perkins off in the distance.

Does a black horse stop on a dime when it hits the middle of the green from 150 yards out?

They are obviously trying to capitalize on Nike staff player Charl Schwartzel's recent Masters vicotry. Most people don't know his name but would recognize the horse face.

its just a dumb ad. the oven videos talking with the pros and explaining the spin slope are much more compelling for golfers with brains
